Singer-songwriter Mod Sun is getting real about his whirlwind romance with pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne and how it's shaped him into the person he is today. Their love story kicked off like a music video when they met in early 2021 collaborating on tunes. “Flames,” their fiery single, dropped, and romance kindled in a flash. By April 2022, Mod was down on one knee proposing in Paris, but less than a year later, in February 2023, the engagement was off.
And while Avril's been mum on the split, Mod’s got no qualms about letting his heart do the talking. In July 2023, he released “Strangers” – a breakup banger inspired by their soaring highs and crushing lows, with a heart-tugging video shot right where he popped the question.
On the podcast, Mod looks back with clarity: “We're two different people, but I think I had a great influence on her,” he shared. Feeling more confident than ever, he added, “I’ve been lost in the last three years of wondering, ‘Where do I fit in?’ But now, I’m secure in who I am.”
He’s not into holding grudges either. “If we had done this talk three months ago, I might've been like, 'F— that person,' but now… If I run into you? It’s all love,” he said, showing off his new perspective on empathy and understanding. He’s found peace knowing this chapter helped him grow.
Post-split, Avril had a brief fling with rapper Tyga, which fizzled out by mid-2023. Meanwhile, Mod’s been all about hitting the road and healing. “Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing,” he wrote on Instagram. “I just know there’s a plan for it all.”
