SZA Spills the Tea: "Leave Me Out of the Drama!"

SZA is clearing the air in her latest interview, and it’s piping hot! The R&B superstar opened up to GQ about recent social media drama, Kendrick vs. Drake, and her exciting new music plans.

What's up with the Nicki shade? Over the summer, Nicki Minaj randomly called out SZA, poking fun at her looks and questioning her success, all after coming for Punch, SZA's label TDE’s president. SZA says she's totally confused by the beef, telling GQ, “I don’t know her. We have no connection... It was a little strange. It was very like, ‘Why?’”

Kendrick vs. Drake - No thanks! Fans might expect SZA to pick a side in the long-standing Kendrick and Drake saga, especially since she's worked with both. But she’s having none of it! “It was something between two grown-ass men,” SZA dished. “Why would I insert myself? Obviously, Kendrick is family — I'm TDE all day. And Drake? Our vibe is amazing!” She also shut down any theories about her song choice during her Kendrick tour.

New music alert! Beyond the drama, SZA is laser-focused on her next record and promises it’ll be her best yet! She’s been cooking up beats with Steve Lacy and already completed some tracks like “Passenger Princess,” “Burgers,” and “Yearner.” But hold on — she’s not in a rush to drop it. 2026, maybe?

Raising the bar SZA also threw some shade at today’s music scene, admitting she's not overly inspired by it. But she’s got her faves: Chappell Roan, Doechii, and Lola Young are all in her playlist. “We have such a crazy onslaught of mediocrity that the bar is in hell,” she jokes, adding she’s all about making incredible music — and keeping it real when it isn't good enough!
